Matthew Summers Appointed To Freeport Police Chief

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — City Manager Lowell Crow has announced the appointment of Matthew Summers to Police Chief of the Freeport Police Department in Freeport, Illinois.

Summers is a 24-year veteran of the police department having worked in patrol, investigations, community policing and administration.

Summers received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. He graduated the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command from Northwestern University in 2014.

Summers is a September, 2019 graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. This 10-week prestigious program is only made available to 1% of all law enforcement officers. His memberships include the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI Academy Associates. City Manager Crow noted that with Summers’s extensive education and background he is the best person for the job as police chief.

Lt. Travis Davis is appointed to the Deputy Chief position. Lt. Davis has served in the police department since June of 2001. Travis is a veteran of the US Army Reserve –Military Police and a graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. He is also a 2016 graduate of Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.

Both Matthew Summers and Lt. Travis Davis will be sworn in Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall which starts at 6:00 PM.
