FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — Guilty. That’s what a jury of his peers said to accused murderer Devin Marcum of Freeport on Friday inside a Stephenson County Courthouse courtroom.

Marcum stood accused of fatally shooting Kyle Tucker and Shaun Bradbury of Freeport and wounding a third, Michael Steinhauser, outside a Cedarville bar back in February of this year.

Charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a felon, the trial which began on Monday, ended after less than an hour of deliberation.

According to the Journal Standard Marcum’s defense attorney, Elder Granger II, said Marcum was shocked by the verdict.

Claiming self-defense and to protect one of his sisters, who was allegedly the target of cyber bullying and threats, Marcum stated that he feared for his and his family’s safety that night at the bar in Cedarville, population 741.

Witnesses at the Cedar Inn that night testified Marcum was fighting with 35-year-old Michael Steinhauser and that during the altercation, Marcum drew a gun.

Witnesses testified that 35-year-old Tucker tried to intervene, in attempt to get Marcum to put down the gun, at which point Marcum opened fire.

The jury found 23 year old Devin Marcum guilty of all charges against him in the slayings, including three counts of First Degree Murder, two counts of Strong Probability to Commit Murder or Injury, one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Aggravated Battery, Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in a Building, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

His sentencing is set for Oct. 10.
