FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — The public is invited to join friends at the Stephenson County Historical Society for their Annual Dinner and Meeting, Thursday, April 25, 2019, starting with a social hour at 5PM.

This year’s program will be “Revealing the Contents of the Freeport City Hall Time Capsule.”

This year saw the demolition of Freeport’s old City Hall, built in 1899. It was a sad event for many historically-minded citizens. Fortunately, the original time capsule was located, saved, and donated to the Stephenson County Historical Society.

At this year’s Annual Meeting and Dinner, the Stephenson County Historical Society will reveal those contents for the first time since they were tucked away and sealed within the walls of that building 120 years ago.

What were the contents, and why were they chosen?

What items did the city fathers think would best tell their story when the time capsule was opened, long after they were gone?

The presentation will also include a history of Freeport’s City Hall, and will try to paint a picture of Freeport as it was entering the 20th century. This is a must-see program for local history buffs and anyone who might just be curious! Come and see history revealed!

Tickets are $40 each, and include a full dinner. Reserve your seat early, space is limited. The public is invited.

Call the museum office at 815-232-8419 to reserve your tickets, or send a check for $40 for each ticket you are requesting to SCHS Annual Dinner, 1440 S. Carroll Ave, Freeport, IL 61032

The annual dinner will be held at the Freeport Elk’s Lodge.
