City To Apply For Grant To Purchase Property In Flood-Zone Identified Areas

Freeport, Illinois — The City of Freeport has announced it is applying for a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. According to a press release issued by the city, this grant will help the City of Freeport purchase property in flood-zone identified areas. On Wednesday, December 5th at 6:00 PM, in conjunction with St. Paul’s Missionary Baptist Church, the City will be conducting an informational meeting for interested residents about the Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant program as well as answer any questions for anyone that is interested in participating in the program.

If you have any questions, you can contact the Community Development Department at City Hall at 815-235-8202 or stop by City Hall at 314 W. Stephenson St. It is important to remember that participation in this project is completely voluntary. The State nor the City of Freeport will use its eminent domain authority to acquire property if you choose not to participate in the grant program or if negotiations fail for the purchase of your property.

This meeting will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church located at 607 East Stephenson St., Freeport, Illinois.

The City of Freeport would like to encourage the attendance of all interested parties.
