FREEPORT, Ill., Dec. 28, 2017 — During this heightened flu season, FHN is implementing the following visitor restrictions from the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) for visitors’ health and safety as well as that of our patients and staff:

  • No visitors under age 18.
  • Only two (2) visitors per patient at one time.
  • Visitors with fever, cough, or sore throat should NOT visit. If they MUST, masks are required (and will be provided).
  • Patients hospitalized for flu may have visitors ONLY when necessary for emotional well-being or care.
  • Respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette (cover coughs, tissue disposal immediately after using hand sanitizer) MUST be followed at all times.

These restrictions apply to ALL hospital patients, including OB and Pediatrics. All medical services remain available to patients of all ages throughout FHN.

“We are putting these restrictions in place to protect our patients and their families as well as our staff during flu season,” said FHN Infectious Disease Specialist and Medical Staff President Robert Geller, MD, MS, FACP, FIDSA.

“We would also like to remind people of all ages that proper hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and staying home if you feel ill are the best ways to prevent the spread of flu,” Dr. Geller said.
