Freeport, Illinois — In March of this past year we first heard the news of a new program part of Immanuel Lutheran Church’s Military Outreach Program called Bikes 4 Stripes. Bikes 4 Stripes provides free bicycles to qualified veterans in need of transportation.
Through the help of the Veterans Assistance Commission Stephenson County, US Air Force Veteran Roy qualified for a bicycle donated to him by the “Bikes 4 Stripes” program recently. The program works through local law enforcement agencies that donate abandoned bicycles.
At the veterans resource fair held this past March, we spoke with Linda Le who told us more about Bikes 4 Stripes and how the program works. You can catch Linda in the below video at around 6:00 minutes into the segment.
The organization does accept other items such as locks, lights and helmets which can be dropped off at PHK Bicycles. PHK is located at 205 N. Adams St. in downtown Freeport.
If you are a qualifying Veteran or you know of a Veteran who is in need of a bicycle for transportation, please contact the Veterans Assistance Commission of Stephenson County at (815) 233-7282.
